How Children Are Exposed to Lead Poisoning

Children are exposed to lead poisoning when they eat paint chips containing lead-based paint. Older homes being renovated can create a dangerous environment where children can breathe in lead contaminated dust.

Symptoms of Lead Poisoning

Symptoms of lead poisoning are not always immediately apparent. Low level exposure can cause the following symptoms:

• Decreased intelligence
• Learning difficulties
• School achievement difficulties
• ADHD and ADD
• Hyperactivity
• Antisocial behavior or criminal activity

Lead poisoning affects other body systems, and in high exposure can lead to convulsions, coma and death.
