During the trial of Jaqueline Fox, an Alabama women who died of ovarian cancer in 2015 after a lifetime of using talcum powder, lawyers for the plaintiffs introduced internal Johnson & Johnson communications as evidence. One of these documents, a memo from 1992, acknowledged a possible linkage between Johnson’s Baby Powder® and cancer, but dismissed these concerns as “negative publicity.”

The jury in this trial found that J&J failed to warn consumers about the potential dangers of using their talcum powder products, and awarded $72 million in damages to the family of the plaintiff. There are more than 1,200 additional talcum powder ovarian cancer lawsuits currently pending against Johnson & Johnson.
