Fetal Macrosomia

Fetal macrosomia describes a fetus or newborn with an unusually high birth weight, although the exact threshold can vary. It can increase the risk of shoulder dystocia and certain maternal or newborn injuries. Prenatal weight estimates are imperfect. A legal investigation does not assume that a large baby required a C-section. It examines risk factors, estimated weight, counseling, labor progress, delivery planning, maneuvers used, and the accepted standard of care under the circumstances.
