Hours-of-Service Rules

Hours-of-service rules limit when and how long many commercial drivers may drive and require specified rest periods. The federal rules differ by vehicle type and operation and include exceptions. In a truck crash case, attorneys may compare logs with electronic device data, dispatch records, fuel receipts, toll records, bills of lading, and phone data. A violation can be important evidence, but the plaintiff must still connect fatigue or noncompliance to the crash and injury.
