Preeclampsia and Eclampsia

Preeclampsia is a pregnancy-related disorder involving new high blood pressure and signs of organ dysfunction, usually after 20 weeks. Eclampsia refers to seizures associated with preeclampsia when another cause is not more likely. These conditions can threaten the pregnant patient and fetus. Care depends on severity and timing and can include monitoring, medication, seizure prevention, blood pressure control, and delivery. A legal review considers symptoms, tests, follow-up, escalation, and causation.
