Annapolis, MD – Victor Antonio Diaz Aguilera Loses Life in Pedestrian Crash on I-97

Annapolis, MD (March 6, 2022) – A pedestrian crash reported in the Annapolis area late Friday evening has claimed one man’s life. On March 4, the Maryland State Police responded to the scene of a crash on Interstate 97.

Preliminary reports from the state police show that 40-year-old Maria Ines Cortes-Gutierrez was driving a vehicle north on Interstate 97. For unknown reasons, she stopped her vehicle in the left lane of the interstate near the exit for Crownsville.

33-year-old Victor Antonio Diaz Aguilera noticed the vehicle stopped on the roadway. Aguilera stopped and exited his vehicle to check on Cortes-Gutierrez. At the same time, a third vehicle was coming through the area and struck Aguilera as he exited his vehicle.

Aguilera sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Cortes-Gutierrez was arrested for driving under the influence.

At this time, the incident remains under investigation.

We would like to offer our condolences to the family of Victor Antonio Diaz Aguilera. Our thoughts are with them at this time.
