Annapolis, MD – Victor Antonio Diaz Aguilera Loses Life in Pedestrian Crash on I-97
Annapolis, MD (March 6, 2022) – A pedestrian crash reported in the Annapolis area late Friday evening has claimed one man’s life. On March 4, the Maryland State Police responded to the scene of a crash on Interstate 97.
Preliminary reports from the state police show that 40-year-old Maria Ines Cortes-Gutierrez was driving a vehicle north on Interstate 97. For unknown reasons, she stopped her vehicle in the left lane of the interstate near the exit for Crownsville.
33-year-old Victor Antonio Diaz Aguilera noticed the vehicle stopped on the roadway. Aguilera stopped and exited his vehicle to check on Cortes-Gutierrez. At the same time, a third vehicle was coming through the area and struck Aguilera as he exited his vehicle.
Aguilera sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Cortes-Gutierrez was arrested for driving under the influence.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
