Pedestrian Accidents in Maryland

Every year, more than 3,000 people are involved in pedestrian accidents in the state of Maryland. Roughly 92% of these accidents result in death or serious injuries for victims. The total number of pedestrians hurt in crashes accounts for 3% of the state’s total 115,000 crashes. However, these victims account for nearly 20% of annual traffic-related fatalities.

The fact that pedestrians lack adequate protection at the time of their accidents means they are more likely than other motorists to suffer severe and life-changing injuries. These injuries are often debilitating and require extensive medical care. Injured pedestrians often have to go through several months of therapy and rehabilitation. Regrettably, there are many instances where victims never fully recover from their injuries.
