Smithsburg, MD (March 6, 2022) – Two people were left injured following a tanker truck crash on Friday afternoon. At around 1:20 p.m., on March 4, emergency crews were requested on-site at a traffic-related incident on Raven Rock Road.

Reports from the Smithsburg Volunteer Fire Department’s deputy chief show that a tanker truck and a second vehicle collided in the 24900 block of Raven Rock Road.

The tanker truck was carrying oil at the time of the accident. As a result, a major spill occurred.

Two people involved in the accident were injured. One victim was flown by medical helicopter to a local hospital for care. A second victim was transported by ambulance.

At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
