Can a Spinal Cord Injury be cured?
The central nervous system is one of the only parts of the body that can’t repair itself. Therefore there is no known cure for a Spinal Cord Injury. However, the damage of a Spinal Cord Injury can be reduced by limiting immediate cell death and reducing inflammation of the spinal cord. Also, there is a way to attempt to regenerate function in damaged areas by blocking the mechanism of neurons to re-grow themselves, inserting new cells and bypassing the damaged area. However, this is only an attempt and is not guaranteed to work.
