Catastrophic Injury

A catastrophic injury is a severe injury that causes major, long-term changes in health, independence, work, communication, mobility, or daily life. Examples can include traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, severe burns, and certain birth injuries. The term does not have one universal legal definition. In a claim, the evidence may include medical records, life-care planning, rehabilitation needs, lost earning capacity, and the effect of the injury on the person and family.
