Mass Tort

A mass tort is a group of individual civil claims involving similar products, exposures, events, or alleged misconduct. The claims may share discovery and pretrial rulings while each plaintiff generally must prove individual use or exposure, injury, causation, and damages. Mass torts can proceed in federal multidistrict litigation, state coordinated proceedings, or separate courts. They differ from class actions because individual facts and recoveries usually remain central.
