Summary of Abuse Allegations against Father Raymond Callahan:

Father Raymond Callahan has been the subject of multiple credible sexual abuse allegations, according to the Archdiocese of Washington.

These allegations, first reported in 1971, involved Father Callahan taking boys on overnight trips to a cabin in Virginia, during which he allegedly abused them and took nude photographs.

That same year, Callahan was removed from ministry and convicted, though he did not serve prison time.

He was officially laicized in 1977 and passed away in 1996. His assignments included St. Mary Star of the Sea in Indian Head, Maryland.

One or more claims against Callahan were included in a $1.3 million settlement involving 16 men who alleged abuse by Archdiocesan priests between 1962 and 1982.

His name was later added to the archdiocese’s 2018 list of credibly accused priests.
