Class Action

A class action is a lawsuit in which one or more named plaintiffs seek to represent a defined group whose claims share common legal or factual issues. A court must certify the class before the case can proceed in that form. Class actions differ from most mass torts, where each injured person generally keeps an individual claim and must prove individual injury and causation. The appropriate procedure depends on the similarities and differences among the claims.
