Discovery

Discovery is the formal process through which parties exchange information and evidence before trial. It can include written questions, requests for documents, requests for admissions, depositions, physical or medical examinations, and expert disclosures. Discovery helps identify what the evidence shows and where the parties disagree. Courts can limit discovery that is irrelevant, privileged, unduly burdensome, or disproportionate to the needs of the case.
