Erb’s Palsy

Erb’s palsy is weakness or paralysis involving nerves in the upper portion of the brachial plexus, often affecting movement of the shoulder and arm. It can occur when those nerves are stretched during birth, including in some shoulder dystocia deliveries. Some children recover with therapy, while others have lasting limitations or need surgery. The condition alone does not prove excessive traction or negligent care. The delivery record and qualified medical review are essential.
