Event Data Recorder

An event data recorder is a vehicle system that can capture information shortly before, during, or after a crash. Depending on the vehicle, data may include speed, braking, throttle, seat-belt status, steering inputs, or change in velocity. It is often called a black box, although the available data varies. Proper retrieval requires appropriate equipment and preservation procedures. The data should be evaluated with physical evidence, records, and crash reconstruction.
