Liability

Liability is legal responsibility for conduct, an injury, a debt, or another obligation. In a civil injury case, liability usually depends on the elements of a specific claim, such as duty, breach, causation, and damages. More than one person or organization can share responsibility. An accident, diagnosis, or bad outcome does not establish liability by itself. The governing law and evidence determine who, if anyone, is legally responsible.
