Noneconomic Damages

Noneconomic damages compensate for nonfinancial harm such as pain, suffering, inconvenience, physical impairment, disfigurement, and loss of companionship where legally available. They are different from medical bills and lost income. Evidence can include testimony, medical records, daily limitations, treatment, and the effect of the injury on relationships and activities. Maryland applies statutory limits to noneconomic damages in many claims, and the applicable limit depends on the claim and date.
